First United Methodist Church
Welcome!
What an interesting time to be alive. The world is (and has been for some time now) going through tremendous changes. Whether you see it most in technology, entertainment, politics, ecology, information, morality, or in all the construction going on in town (!), it is virtually undeniable that big shifts are happening. It is debatable whether these shifts are merely generational or a sign of something more dramatic, but they are upon us either way.
We in the church are dealing with these shifts, too. We are the recipients and beneficiaries of a profound and enduring story telling of God's engagement with the world. While we revere and treasure the Bible, it is sometimes a tricky matter to translate the implications of that story for our time and place. Let's face it, for the thousands of years covered by the Bible, very little really changed in the culture of the Mediterranean region. By contrast, today we live with at least six generations alive at the same time--the first time in human history that that is the case! How much we have seen!
What I know is that God is, each and every day, reaching out to you, into your life, to express a simultaneously cosmic and deeply personal love for you. Are you paying attention?
If you think you could use some friends to journey with, come see us. We are rethinking church, and would love for you to join the conversation!
Yours in Christ,
Chris Carr, Pastor
