Pastor Chris Carr
Chris arrived in Gillette in September of 2006 with wife Charlotte and children Elise, 5, and Caleb, 2. Prior to serving FUMC, he served several congregations in Colorado. He has been an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church since 2000.
Chris grew up in south Texas, graduating high school in San Antonio, and did his undergraduate work at Duke University. While he started out in pursuit of an engineering degree, it soon became abundantly clear that his heart lay elsewhere. Chris graduated in 1992 with a degree in Public Policy Studies and a need to discern his vocation.
Moving to Denver in early 1993, Chris spent several years in not-for-profit work with the homeless, former offenders, and broken families. During this time he joined Scott United Methodist Church. The good people of Scott Church helped Chris work out his calling, and he returned to Duke for seminary. Graduating in 1998, he headed back to the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference.
Chris' passion is for the church to recapture a sense of mission and adventure. He is an avid follower of the emerging church conversation, and sees the church caught up in the wave of a dramatic shift from the modern world to a postmodern one. Either it will learn to ride the wave, or it will crash. Chris is curious to see which, and trusts that God will be with us through it all.
